Julie Orchard, PHR – President

 This is Julie’s sixth year serving on the board. She is completing her second year as President after one year of President-Elect and three years as the Diversity Chair.  Julie has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Eastern Washington University and received her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification in 2008 and her SHRM-CP in November of 2014. Julie is currently an HR Client Manager at Providence in the Physicians Management Group where she started in May of 2016. Julie previously worked as an HR Director at Skils’kin where she served the mission of advancing people with disabilities since 2004. She is a 2014 graduate of Leadership Spokane, sits on the INBA Board of Directors, and is active in the HR and Employment Law Policy Committee at GSI. Julie is passionate about serving the INSHRM membership and advancing the HR profession.

 

 

 



Krystal Siegfried, PHR– President Elect

 Krystal has served over 6 years on the INSHRM Board as she moves into the President Elect role for 2017. She served 4 year as Programs co-Director and Secretary/Historian for 1.5 years. Krystal is the HR Manager at MacKay Manufacturing, a local manufacturer of precision machined products. Krystal has her B.A. in Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resources Management followed by an M.B.A. from Eastern Washington University. She earned her PHR in June 2010 and her SHRM-SCP in August of 2015. Outside of the INSHRM Board and work, Krystal is on the new parent adventure with the recent addition of Baby Eli and focuses her time with family. Occasionally, Krystal loves to fit in a workout, hike or coffee with a friend!  

 

 

 




Lindsey Wane, PHR – Programs Co-Director

This is Lindsey’s fourth year serving on the INSHRM board as Programs Co-Director. Lindsey currently works at Providence as a HR Partner.  She has her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resources from Eastern Washington University. She obtained her PHR certification in 2013 and her SHRM-CP in 2015. Outside of work, Lindsey enjoys spending her time at Priest Lake with family and friends.

 

 

 

 

 

Michael Church – Programs Co-Director

Mike is an employment law attorney with the law firm of Stamper Rubens, P.S. Mike’s practice emphasizes all aspects of employment law, including trade secret violations, discrimination claims, and violations of non-compete or non-solicitation agreements. Mike is a forceful, yet careful and conscientious, litigator who strives vigorously to pursue his clients’ interests while balancing the need for a timely and cost-conscious resolution to each case. Mike is very active in the Spokane community as General Counsel for the Spokane Home Builders Association, General Counsel for Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest, and Past President of Spokane Rotary Club #21. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Spokane Jazz Society and the Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries. Mike is married to Lisa, and they have three daughters, all of whom share Mike’s passion for travel, snow skiing, and surfing.

 

 

 

Laurie Whitcomb, SHRM-CP, PHR – Programs Co-Director

 Laurie has served on the Board for 3 1/2 years. She currently works for the U.S. District Courts as an HR Administrator. She previously worked in HR for Hospice of North Idaho and Dirne Community Health Care (now Heritage Health) and in academics, teaching at various area institutions. Laurie has a diverse  background with a BA in History and International Affairs from Marshall University, MIT from Whitworth, MSt from Oxford University and worked toward a doctoral degree in History at WSU. She has her certifications as a PHR and SHRM-CP. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking exceptionally long distances and watching baseball. Her guiding principle is “How may I serve?”

 

 

 

 

Lindsey Skinfill – Communications Director

 This is Lindsey’s first full year on the board.  She helps enhance lives, fulfill dreams, and build communities as the Assistant HR Manager at Numerica Credit Union.  Before Numerica, Lindsey spent four great years in HR with City of Spokane Valley.  She has her BS in Human Resources for University of Idaho, is currently in the MBA program at Gonzaga, and has both her SHRM-CP and PHR certifications.  Lindsey loves to read, travel, and is a fierce competitor at Family Game Night.

Melody Matthews, SHRM-SCP, SPHR – Certification Director

 This is Melody’s third year serving on the INSHRM board.  Melody earned the designation of SHRM-SCP January 2015 and SPHR June 2013.  Melody co-facilitates the SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP study groups for peers and has enjoyed getting to meet everyone that has a passion for HR and further advancing the HR profession.  Melody joined the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) team in 2001 and is currently the Director of Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Prior to joining CCS, Melody worked at Washington State University Spokane for 4 years and prior to that Eastern Washington University for 17 years. As evident in her prior places of employment, Melody is an advocate for lifelong learning - encompassing learning throughout the life cycle, in different learning environments, formal, non-formal, and informal. Melody also brings with her experience as a facilitator from the Spokane Training Consortium and the CCS Leadership Development Program as well as various topics offered through the Human Resources training program at CCS.  She enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking and cheering on her favorite sport teams.

 

 

 

Jennifer Jackson, JD, PHR, SHRM-CP – Certification Co-Director

This is Jennifer’s first year serving on the INSHRM board. Jennifer is a certified human resources professional and licensed Washington attorney. Jennifer earned her PHR certification in May 2015 and her SHRM-CP certification in January 2016. Jennifer co-facilitates the SHRM-CP/ SHRM-SCP certification study groups and greatly enjoys helping HR professionals become certified and advance their careers. Jennifer is currently a Human Resources Analyst at the City of Spokane. Prior to joining the City of Spokane, Jennifer was a Human Resources Manager for Lowe’s Home Improvement, practiced law at Wolff, Hislop & Crockett, and served as court-appointed investigator (Guardian ad Litem) for Spokane County Superior Court. Jennifer is a life-long learner committed to continuously developing and improving her human resources and legal expertise. Jennifer is excited to utilize her HR, legal, and investigative background to further INSHRM’s mission. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with friends and family, cuddling with her three adorable cats, crafting, and camping.

 

 


Andrea LaPlant, SHRM-CP, PHR -- Foundation Director

This is Andrea's first year serving on the board as the Foundation Director.  She is currently the Director of Human Resources at etailz, Inc., an e-commerce company.  Andrea graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Communication and Political Science.  She has been working in HR for 7 years and obtained her PHR certification in 2012 and her SHRM-CP in 2015.  Outside of work, Andrea enjoys traveling with her husband, spending time with her children and watching football.

 

 

 

 

 Jack Kaplan - Workforce Readiness Director

 This is Jack’s first year serving on the INSHRM board as Workforce Readiness Director. Jack is strongly committed to helping the business community in Spokane thrive and grow, and sees Workforce Readiness and one of the key pillars in this effort. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY with a BS degree in Industrial Psychology, and did graduate work in management at NY Stern Graduate Business School and Southern Methodist University Graduate School of Business Administration.  He worked as a Personnel Officer in the US Army, as an HR Director and Director of Staffing and Recruiting, and as a General Manager for the Pyramid Group Recruiting firm.  He has been with Spokane WorkSource in a variety of key roles, since 2011.  His great passions are building a better community and his three granddaughters, the driving force behind his relocation to Spokane. 



April O'Hair, SHRM-SCP – Technology Director

This is April's second year on the board. She has been employed at Wagstaff, Inc., for six years and is currently a Human Resources Generalist.  She graduated from Eastern Washington University with her B.A. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources Management.  April has received most of her computer technical training through on-the-job experience in working with HRIS software and some website management using HTML coding.  In her spare time, April loves cooking and eating all kinds of spicy foods, going to movies with her husband, getting some sun at the lake with friends, and running with her 120 lb. golden retriever, Sammy.

 

 

 


Jennifer Isaacson – Treasurer

This is Jennifer’s first year serving on the INSHRM board as the Treasurer.  Jennifer moved from Bozeman, Montana in 2016, and is serving as the Vice President-Finance & Administration at Greater Spokane Incorporated.  She oversees all of the finance, human resources, technology and facilities for GSI.  Jennifer has a BA in Organizational Communication from Montana State University-Billings, and is currently pursuing her MA in Organizational Leadership at Gonzaga University.  She has over 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership positions, and enjoys contributing to mission-driven work.  Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys outdoor activities with her family, partaking in arts and crafts, and spoiling her sassy mini Australian Shepherd.

 

 


Janelle Brennan – Legislative Director

This is Janelle’s first year serving on the board as the Legislative Director. She is Corporate Counsel at Garco Construction, Inc., where her practice focuses on construction, business and employment law. A Double Zag (GU ’05, GU Law ’09), Janelle is active in Spokane as chair of the HR/Employment Law Subcommittee of Greater Spokane Incorporated’s Public Policy Committee, member of the Association of General Contractors – Spokane Government Affairs Committee, and President of the Spokane Humane Society Board of Directors. Her policy and legislative work is as extensive as it is diverse. During the 2015 election cycle, Janelle served as an employer side representative for the PBS televised debate on the City of Spokane’s earned sick and safe leave citizen initiative. She has travelled across the region, state, and a far as Washington D.C. to advocate on behalf of the causes she champions. Janelle spends her free time with family and friends, being entertained by her toddler, dreaming up new home renovation projects for her husband, and teaching barre classes.

 

 



Melissa Kuntzmann – Membership Co-Director

 Melissa has served 4 years on the INSHRM Board as Membership Director. Melissa is the Director of Human Resources for Zak! Designs, a family-oriented company with the vision to bring joy into the daily lives of people around the world by delivering innovative and FUNctional products that promote a healthy lifestyle for every member of the family. Melissa has her B.A. in Business Management and Human Resources Management from EWU followed by an M.A. in Management and Leadership from Webster University. She received her SHRM-CP certification in July 2017. Outside of INSHRM and work, Melissa enjoys spending time with her daughter, husband, and new puppy, Finn, traveling, kayaking, and enjoying the beautiful Inland Northwest! Melissa KoontzMembership Co-Director

 This is Melissa’s second year with the Board as the Membership Director. Melissa is an Employee Benefits Consultant for HUB International and works with employers to build competitive benefits packages and comply with benefits laws. Prior to joining the insurance industry in 2012, Melissa studied at Gonzaga University, graduating with Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Human Resource Management/ Business Administration. Local to Spokane, Melissa has a passion for building the community and is heavily involved in other local organizations including Greater Spokane Incorporated, Leadership Spokane, Spokane Young Professionals, Spokane Valley Chamber, and the Spokane Humane Society. Melissa enjoys running, snow skiing, camping, anything in the outdoors, and spending time with her husband, family, friends, and boxer/greyhound, Scraps Mackenzie. 

 

 

 

Jennifer Saxon - Secretary

This is Jennifer’s first year serving on the INSHRM Board as the Secretary. Currently Jennifer is the HR Generalist for Sysco Spokane. Sysco is a multinational corporation involved in the marketing and distribution of food products to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, and other food service businesses. Jennifer works in a generalist capacity and manages payroll for employees in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management with a focus on Human Resources from Eastern Washington University in 2012. She then achieved her SHRM-CP certification in 2016. Prior to working for Sysco, Jennifer worked for Red Lion Hotels in the Human Resources Department. In her free time Jennifer enjoys traveling with her husband, playing with her dogs, and participating in a variety of health and fitness activities.  

 

 

 

 

Ashleigh Matthews, PHR - Special Events Director

 This is Ashleigh’s second year serving on the INSHRM Board. She is the HR Manager at VPI Quality Windows, a vinyl window manufacturer with locations in Spokane, WA and Beaverton, OR. Ashleigh has her B.A. in Business Management, with emphasis in Human Resources and Marketing, from Eastern Washington University. She earned her PHR in June 2009 and SHRM-CP in November 2015. Outside of work, Ashleigh enjoys cheering on the EWU Eagles Football team, running half marathons and spending time with her family, boyfriend and two dogs. 

 

 

 

 

Valarie Hartfield- Marketing/Social Media Director

Valerie has been on the Board since 2007 in a multitude of capacities and has taken on the  role as Marketing/Social Media Director. She is a University of Washington graduate and has been employed at Mercer Health and Benefits, LLC, since 2005.  Val also currently runs INSHRMs new Sponsorships program, and has done a stellar job of setting up this new program.
