June 2010

Dear INSHRM Members,

First, I want to thank all who attended our recent networking event at Arbor Crest Winery.  It was a great evening enjoyed by all!    The wine was flowing and everyone enjoyed the great food and chocolate.  The evening also provided wonderful weather and great views, and lively conversation with our fellow HR professionals.  Our raffle in support of the SHRM Foundation was a big success too!  At our June 8th luncheon meeting, Andrea will provide an update on the amount raised.

As we look to June and the summer break, I want to take a few moments to talk about volunteer opportunities available through our Chapter.  It may seem a bit early, but we have already begun planning for our Holiday Party to be held on December 7th.  As I mentioned in last month’s letter, we are excited to be partnering again with Safety Net Spokane this year to raise funds for this wonderful charity.  In anticipation of a great event, the committee is looking for volunteers to help procure auction items, sponsorships and donations as well as assist with many other behind the scenes activities.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Breah Niemiec at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Additional volunteer opportunities exist on our Board of Directors.  Even though it is only June, our Board is thinking ahead to 2011. Debra McCormick, President Elect, is already gearing up for her future presidential duties!  In order to be considered for the Board, you must be a current INSHRM Chapter member, and SHRM general or professional member in good standing.  If you are interested in learning more about being a Board member, please feel free to contact me, or the person who chairs the area in which you may have interest. We’ll be happy to answer any questions, provide the expectations for Board members, and even provide Chair job descriptions for you to review.  For those of you who may not be able to participate, but know of someone who would be a great addition to the Board, you are welcome to make a nomination.  I will follow up on received nominations to ensure the person nominated is interested in being a Board member, and provide him/her with the necessary information.  Normally, submitted applications are considered by a nominating committee in September, formal nominations are made and presented in October, and the swearing in ceremony takes place at our November meeting.

I hope you consider the opportunity to volunteer on our Board and serve your fellow Chapter members and our community.  Yes, we work hard and being a Board member requires a bit of time, however, we also try to have fun too, and share some great times along the way!

I know I will see many of you at our June 8th meeting; however, I want to wish all of you a sun-filled, happy summer season.  We look forward to returning in September for our legal update with Kelly Allen, and some wonderful programs in October and November.

Sincerely,

Colleen Cliff, PHR
