Becoming a More Strategic HR Business Partner:

Understanding and Applying the "New Science" of Human Capital Management

Description:  HR business partners continue to struggle to be viewed and treated as strategic partners who help to improve business outcomes. However, even small to mid size companies with lean HR teams and limited budgets can begin to improve the situation by understanding the human capital factors that drive productivity and affect the bottom line. This talk will discuss the theory and application behind what Mercer calls the "new science of human capital," and will describe ways that companies and organizations of all sizes and varieties are taking new approaches to key areas of responsibility for HR such as total rewards, workforce planning, and employee engagement.

The talk aims to be interactive, engaging and insightful, so come prepared to discuss your experiences and ask questions.

 

Bio: Norman Ramion

Norman is a Principal in Mercer’s Workforce Sciences group, part of Mercer's Human Capital line of business. He specializes in employee research, including all varieties of employee and management opinion surveying and related diagnostic techniques. As a natural extension of this research work, he also helps clients to effectively use the information for strategic decision making and change management, aimed at improving the effectiveness of their organizations overall.

Since 1990, Norman has consulted in the U.S. and internationally across a broad range of industries for numerous Global 500 companies as well as many public sector government organizations. While based in Singapore, he led Mercer’s organization research practice in Asia for three years, held an Asia regional leadership role with McKinsey & Company, and served as managing director for the Asia, Middle East, Africa regional operations of another employee research consulting firm. Currently based in San Francisco, he leads Mercer’s organization research work in the West region, and contributes to global client engagements as well.

Norman has been a frequent speaker at HR conferences and forums and contributed a chapter on designing and using HR metrics in organizations in the Mercer book, Mastering Business in Asia:  Human Resource Management.

Norman holds an honors BA degree in Psychology and Sociology from Marquette University, and a Master’s degree in Social Psychology from Indiana University, Bloomington.
