Recruiting and Retaining Veterans with Disabilities

Program Overview:  

Veterans are our National Treasures. These are well disciplined, well trained and conscientious people that serve our country and make model employees in civilian life. Dedicated and punctual, ready to follow and always trained to lead.  This presentation will focus on veterans returning from combat that may have service connected disabilities and their re-integration into our community and workforce. What can employers do to recruit and retain veterans along with what

can we (employers) do to make it easier for veterans returning from Iraqi/Afghanistan back to our organization and those that are about to deploy from our organization. Also members will learn of any new and pending legislation that may affect our workplace organizations.

Bio:  

Michael R. Ogle, MSgt, USAF, (Ret.), is VA Outreach Counseling Technician, is an Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, Persian Gulf, Kosovo, El Dorado Canyon, Just Cause and Allied Force veteran. He served in the Air Force from 1980 to 2004. Mike entered the service as a Russian linguist, and later was assigned to aircraft maintenance as a crew chief, flight chief, production superintendent, Superintendent of Programs and Mobility, Director of Quality Improvement, and Quality Assurance evaluator. He spent his last five years as a First Sergeant.  He spent 7 ½ years of his career deployed to various operational combat theaters. He was selected as the Air Force Airman of the Year in 1990 and served on the Air Force enlisted counsel for the following two years working on pay, allowance and compensation committee to improve quality of life for enlisted personnel. He is a former Department of Defense Employee who served as the Wing Propulsion Manager for the 92d Air Refueling Wing. Mike is a graduate of the Community College of the Air Force and received his AAS degree in 1989.  Additionally, he receives an Associate Electronics degree from Advanced Electronics in 2003. He is also a graduate of the Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy.

Mike is a member of the Spokane Armed Forces Service Committee and Lilac Torchlight Parade Committee on the local Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Inland Empire Allied Veterans Council, Veteran’s Task Force and a life member of Chapter 45 of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Additionally, he is active in numerous veteran issues. He is a regular speaker at Fairchild’s Transition Assistance Program and invests numerous hours assisting local veteran organizations.
